Westmoreland County baseball game recaps from Monday, March 30th 2026:

Norwin 6 Hempfield Area 5

Norwin jumped out to a 6-0 lead, and fended off Hempfield Area’s comeback bid, as the Knights notched a 6-5 road victory in a Section 2-6A matchup. The Knights (3-1, 1-0) scored all of their runs in the first three frames, including a home run and an RBI single by Zane Markovitz, as well as an RBI single from Trevor Vitsas and three sacrifice flies. Matt O’Neil earned the win on the hill, working 4.2 innings and permitting three hits and striking out eight, while Aidan Beveridge collected the save. Evan Dunlap contributed a three-run double for the Spartans (2-3, 0-1), while Drew Jones smacked a solo home run.

Franklin Regional 13 Kiski Area 12 (9 innings)

Franklin Regional outlasted Kiski Area in a slugfest, 13-12, in nine innings in Section 1-5A. Tim Perone was one of the offensive catalysts for the homestanding Panthers (8-1, 3-0), as he homered, tripled, and produced three RBIs, while Anthony Mitchell added a pair of doubles and two runs batted in. In the defeat, the Cavaliers (0-4, 0-1) were led by Andrew Varner, who had three RBIs, and Tytan Logero, who collected a pair of runs batted in.

Penn-Trafford 13 Armstrong 2

An offensive explosion carried Penn-Trafford to a 13-2 triumph at Armstrong in Section 1-5A play. Tanner DeStefano blasted a grand slam, doubled, and accumulated five RBIs for the Warriors (5-1, 2-1), while Kyle Grabowski homered and also earned the win on the mound against the River Hawks (0-5, 0-3).

Greater Latrobe 15 Penn Hills (3 innings)

Greater Latrobe notched a lopsided 15-0 home victory in three innings against Penn Hills in a Section 1-5A clash. Cole Short tossed an abbreviated no-hitter for the Wildcats (6-1, 2-1), as he struck out seven in three innings. Grady Ruffner registered four RBIs for GL, including a three-run inside-the-park homer, while Noah Noel and Alex Amond each picked up two runs batted in against the Indians (0-4, 0-3).

Derry Area 5 Valley 4   WATCH BROADCAST

Led by a stellar effort by Cason Long, Derry Area edged Valley 5-4 in a Section 3-4A showdown. Long went 3-for-3, including a home run and double, and produced three RBIs and scored twice, while he also struck out the side to secure the save for the Trojans (4-2, 1-0). Anthony Sacco collected a pair of hits, including a triple, and scored twice for DA, while Max Doherty earned the victory on the bump, working six innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits, with two walks and five strikeouts. Dante Taliani produced two RBIs for the Vikings (3-2, 0-1), while Dom Dunkel threw five innings, allowing five hits and four runs, while issuing one walk and striking out eight.

Ringgold 6 Belle Vernon 5

Max Soles RBI single in the sixth inning turned out to be the game-winning hit as Ringgold edged Belle Vernon 6-5 in Section 2-4A play. Connor Bergman went 3-for-4, with a double, and drove in a run for the Leopards (3-2, 2-1). Chace Petrosky and Zach Plymire both collected two hits and Ian Porter drove in a pair of runs. Connor David recorded two hits and scored twice for the Rams (2-4, 1-2).

Freeport 5 Ligonier Valley 4

With Ligonier Valley clinging to a 4-3 lead, Ashton Bricker smacked a two-run, walk-off homer in the seventh to give Freeport a 5-4 victory over the Rams in a Section 3-3A contest. Austin Harr and Cooper Hegan each produced two hits with Harr adding a double for the Rams (2-3, 0-1). Trey Schreckengost had two hits, including a double, for the Yellowjackets (5-0, 3-0) while Gage Blystone knocked in two runs.

Mount Pleasant 21 Deer Lakes 6

Mount Pleasant pounded out 19 hits as the Vikings clobbered Deer Lakes 21-6 to open Section 3-3A play. Bobby Smithnosky had four hits for the Vikings while Carter Urban finished 3-for-5 with a double and five RBIs. Santino Marne also supplied three hits in the game for Mount Pleasant (3-4, 1-2) while Dane Firmstone drove in three runs. Jordan Grieff worked four innings to earn the win. Eli Misera ended with two hits and two RBIs for the Lancers (3-5, 2-1).

**Burrell 11 Southmoreland 1 (5 innings)

Trey Coury collected three hits while driving in two and scoring a pair of runs to lead Burrell to an 11-1, five-inning triumph over visiting Southmoreland in a Section 3-3A match up. In addition to Coury, Tanner Arenth brought home a pair of runs for the Buccaneers (3-2, 2-1). Brayden Mell allowed one run on three hits in five innings to earn the win. Jake Govern doubled for the Scotties (0-5, 0-3).

Greensburg Central Catholic 5 Jeannette 1

Jeannette scored the games first run in the top of the first inning but Greensburg Central Catholic responded with five unanswered tallies to defeat the Jayhawks 5-1 in Section 1-1A. Kramer finished 3-for-3 including a double and three RBIs to pace the Centurions (3-0, 3-0). Noah Rattigan provided the lone hit for the Jayhawks (3-2, 0-1) against GCC's Tyler Samide who struck out 11 batters in a complete game effort.
