15 area junior high wrestlers celebrated championships Saturday at the annual Junior High Southwest Regional Tournament at Kiski Area High School.
The tournament, in its 13th year, is the post-season tournament for District 7 junior high wrestlers.
Norwin captured the team title totaling 208 points over two days. Trinity came in with 195 points to finish second followed narrowly by Kiski Area (194.5), Connellsville (192.5) and Canon-McMillan (179). Franklin Regional scored 174.5 points to place just out of the top five. Greater Latrobe finished seventh.
Kiski Area's Mario Hutcherson, one of the top junior high wrestlers in the country, was named as the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. Hutcherson pinned his way to a championship at 172 pounds, finishing with a second period fall over Connellsville's William Snyder at 2:28 in the final.
Norwin freshman Landon Sidun won the award last year.
