WPIAL boys soccer quarterfinal results from Wednesday, October 22nd:

Franklin Regional 2 Chartiers Valley 1 (2OT) (Class 3A Boys)

Cruise Lamanna’s goal in the second overtime period propelled Franklin Regional to a 2-1 home victory against Chartiers Valley in the WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinals on Wednesday. Lamanna’s golden goal, assisted by Rory Bayne, occurred 1:38 into the second overtime for the No. 3 Panthers, who return to the semifinals for the third consecutive campaign. Lamanna, a senior, netted the lone goal in regulation for FR, as well, as he converted a penalty kick in the 74th minute, deadlocking the score. The sixth-seeded Colts opened the scoring in the 63rd minute, as Ryan Bogdon fired a shot that deflected off a Panthers defender and past goalkeeper Emerson Bush. Sean Walsh registered 11 saves in net for the Colts, who finished the campaign at 11-5-1. The Panthers (17-3-0), meanwhile, will face No. 2 Bethel Park in the semifinals on a date and time to be determined.


WPIAL boys soccer first round playoff results from Tuesday, October 21st:

Norwin 4 Woodland Hills 0 (Class 4A Boys)

Ian Natale and Danny Metzger collected two goals apiece as sixth-seeded Norwin eliminated No. 11 Woodland Hills with a 4-0 victory in the WPIAL Class 4A first round at Knights Stadium. Goalkeeper Reed Hoyle shut out the Wolverines (7-8-0) who were playing in their first playoff game since 2019. Norwin (11-5-3) will play rival Plum, the No. 3 seed, in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Canon-McMillan 9 Hempfield Area 0 (Class 4A Boys)

No. 12 Hempfield Area saw its season come to an end at the hands of No. 5 Canon-McMillan in a 9-0 defeat in the first round of the WPIAL 4A playoffs. The Spartans finish with a record of 5-11-0 while the Big Macs (13-3-0) will face fourth-seeded Seneca Valley in the quarterfinals on Saturday.


WPIAL boys soccer first round playoff results from Monday, October 20th:

Mount Pleasant 2 Elizabeth Forward 1 (Class 2A Boys)

No. 5 Mount Pleasant secured its first playoff win since 2020, holding off No. 12 Elizabeth Forward to win 2-1 in a WPIAL Class 2A first round clash. The Vikings went ahead 14 minutes into the contest on a touch by Tyke Snyder. They extended the advantage in the second half when Lukas Showman put home a cross to make it 2-0. Nate Grimm cut the deficit to 2-1 for Elizabeth Forward as he scored on a direct kick but the Warriors (11-8-0) were unable to tie the game. Mount Pleasant (15-4-0) plays No. 4 Avonworth on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

South Park 1 Southmoreland 0 (Class 2A Boys)

Despite a great effort from No. 16 Southmoreland, the Scotties were unable to pull off the upset of top-seeded South Park losing 1-0 in a WPIAL 2A first round game. Ethan Aultz recorded the only goal which came late in the first half. The Eagles (18-1-0) play No. 9 Beaver on Thursday in the quarterfinals while Southmoreland ends the season (8-11-0).

North Catholic 7 Yough 1 (Class 2A Boys)

Justin Garvey posted two goals and two assists as No. 3 North Catholic downed No. 14 Yough 7-1 in a WPIAL Class 2A first round clash. The Trojans (16-1-1) will match up against No. 6 Deer Lakes in the quarterfinals on Thursday while the Cougars finish with a record of (13-6-0).
