Westmoreland County high school baseball recaps from Wednesday, April 12th 2023:
Plum 3 Penn-Trafford 2
A day after the Warriors edged Plum by a single run, the Mustangs returned the favor, prevailing 3-2 at home against Penn-Trafford. Ian Temple registered an RBI double for PT, but Frank Macioce had two runs batted in for the Mustangs. The Warriors sit at 3-3 in Class 5A Section 1, while Plum is 2-2.
Seneca Valley 2 Franklin Regional 0
The Panthers were stifled in a 2-0 loss at Seneca Valley in a nonsection clash. Chase Lemke recorded two of the three hits for FR. Zach Tkatch earned the win on the bump for the Raiders, while Creed Erdos provided two RBIs.
Greater Latrobe 6 Ringgold 0
Logan Bradish went the distance in recording the shutout, as the Wildcats blanked Ringgold 6-0. Bradish fanned seven hitters, while Anthony Massari amassed three RBIs and Tyler Fazekas added a pair of doubles for homestanding GL. Greater Latrobe improved to 3-1 in Class 4A Section 2, while the Rams dropped to 2-2.
Belle Vernon 4 Uniontown 2
Parker Lind pitched effectively into the sixth inning in earning the win for the Leopards, as they ousted Uniontown Area 4-2. Host Belle Vernon received RBI hits from Jake Gedekoh, Jake Wessel, and Adam LaCarte, while Lucas Judy notched the save in relief of Lind, who allowed just one run and struck out seven. With the win, BVA improved to 2-2 in Class 4A Section 2, while the Red Raiders fell to 3-1.
Kiski Area 12 Hampton 6
After being shut out a day earlier, the Cavaliers exploded offensively in a 12-6 road triumph at Hampton. Nate Witt and Dom DiNinno each smacked doubles, while Lebryn Smith collected the win on the hill for Kiski Area. Consequently, the Cavs evened their mark at 2-2 in Class 4A Section 4, while the Talbots fell to 2-2.
Greensburg Salem 8 Mount Pleasant 5
Owen Tutich worked six strong innings on the hill, and went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored at the plate to propel the Golden Lions to an 8-5 win at home against Mount Pleasant Area. Noah Outly racked up three runs batted in for GS, while Peyton Chismar and Grant Smith each contributed two RBIs. Connor Drzal was the offensive catalyst for the Vikings, as he went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. The Golden Lions remained perfect in Class 3A Section 4, at 6-0, while the Vikings dropped to 1-3.
Yough 14 Waynesburg Central 4
The Cougars showed their offensive firepower in a 14-4 win at home against Waynesburg Central. Blake Ulander and James Shoman each notched RBI triples, while Nate Bell went the distance on the rubber for Yough. In the defeat, Lincoln Pack cleared the fence for the Raiders. Yough stayed perfect in Class 3A Section 4, moving to 4-0, while Waynesburg Central tumbled to 2-4.
Southmoreland 6 Brownsville Area 1
Ty Keffer was dominant on the mound, as he recorded a dozen strikeouts in leading the Scotties to a 6-1 win at Brownsville Area. Keffer also notched a pair of RBIs, while Cole Teets produced three runs batted in for Southmoreland. The Scotties captured their first win of the campaign, moving to 1-5 in Class 3A Section 4, while the Falcons fell to 1-5.
Freeport Area 12 Burrell 2
Dylan McKalip notched a pair of hits for the Buccaneers, but Burrell suffered a lopsided loss, 12-2, at home against Freeport Area. Tyler Asti and Zach Clark each doubled twice and they combined for five RBIs for the Yellowjackets. Burrell fell to 4-2 in Class 3A Section 3, while Freeport moved to 5-1.
Ligonier Valley 10 Apollo-Ridge 2
Haden Sierocky collected two RBIs, while Adam Moreland and Broderick Schreyer each contributed RBI doubles in propelling the Rams to a 10-2 win at Apollo-Ridge. Logan Bianco provided the offense for the Vikings, as he hit a two-run double. Ligonier Valley, which won its fifth game in a row, upped its mark to 5-1 in Class 2A Section 3, while Apollo-Ridge remained winless at 0-6.
Brentwood 13 Jeannette 10
Jayden Kennedy and Michael Mason each produced three hits and three RBIs for the Jayhawks, but Jeannette fell at Brentwood 13-10. The Jayhawks now sit at 1-3 in Class 2A Section 3, while the Spartans are 1-5. Talan Kammermeir homered for Brentwood.
