Greater Latrobe runs past Norwin; PT edges Moon in championship rematch; Spartans win thriller against Cavs

Greater Latrobe 42 Norwin 28   (GL: 3-0; NOR: 2-1)   WATCH BROADCAST

Keyed by a monster rushing performance by the duo of Alex Tatsch and John Wetzel, Greater Latrobe claimed an impressive 42-28 win at Norwin. Tatsch rushed for 251 yards and four scores, while Wetzel compiled 156 yards and a TD on the ground. Tatsch opened the scoring with a 3-yard surge, and Wetzel followed with a 39-yard run. Norwin QB Tristyn Tavares responded with a rushing score of his own, spanning 35 yards, but Tatsch answered with an 8-yard TD run to stake GL to a 21-7 halftime lead. Another Tavares TD run early in the third trimmed Norwin’s deficit temporarily, but Tatsch and Brady Prohovic scored consecutive TDs to put GL back in command. A pair of touchdowns passes by Tavares sandwiched a long Tatsch TD run in the fourth. In the defeat, the Knights signalcaller hit on 16-of-32 attempts for 273 yards, and Jake Knight registered five receptions for 106 yards and a TD.

Penn-Trafford 14 Moon Area 7   (PT: 2-1; MA: 1-1)   WATCH BROADCAST

Tasso Whipple continued his success on the ground for Penn-Trafford, as he rushed for 161 yards in aiding the Warriors in their 14-7 win at home against Moon Area. Whipple added a 73-yard TD run, while Jesse Lisbon hauled in a 40-yard touchdown pass from Jonny Lovre. The Warriors QB finished with 114 yards through the air.

Deer Lakes 34 Derry Area 12   (DL: 3-0; DA: 1-2)   WATCH BROADCAST

Derry Area struggled to contain Zier Williams, who propelled Deer Lakes to a 34-12 win. Williams notched three rushing TDs for the Lancers, while Jake Fleisher threw for a touchdown and added another on the ground. In the defeat, the host Trojans were paced by Damauri Robinson and Brady Brown, each of whom found paydirt.

Upper St. Clair 45 Franklin Regional 7   (USC: 3-0; FR: 2-1)   LISTEN BROADCAST

Franklin Regional was overwhelmed from the start at Upper St. Clair, as USC cruised to a 45-7 victory. Upper St. Clair led 38-0 at the half, enacting the mercy rule. Julian Dahlem registered 120 yards on the ground and a score, while Dante Coury notched a pair of rushing touchdowns. FR’s lone score came in the third quarter on a 1-yard run from QB Chase Lemke. Kyle Dupill added 15 carries for 104 yards for Franklin Regional.

Hempfield Area 31 Kiski Area 29   (HA: 1-2; KA: 1-2)

Sawyer Leuthold’s field goal in the final minute gave Hempfield Area a dramatic 31-29 victory at Kiski Area. His kick from 26 yards came with just 32 seconds remaining. That decisive field goal came after the homestanding Cavaliers produced a second-half rally, scoring 19 unanswered points. KA took its first lead in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard TD run by Landon Kucic. Moreover, Cavs QB Carson Heinle threw for 195 yards and three scores. The Spartans controlled the opening half, propelled by quarterback Dom Detruf, who finished 13-of-21 for 254 yards and three TDs. Mitch Bitar paced Hempfield with three receptions for 82 yards and a score, while Aidan Stinebiser rushed 20 times for 117 yards.

Belle Vernon Area 23 Central Valley 17   (BVA: 1-0; CV: 0-3)

Kole Doppelheuer provided a spark on special teams, and the Belle Vernon Area defense produced a late-game stop to preserve a 23-17 home victory against Central Valley. Doppelheuer, who paced the Leopards with a dozen rushes for 67 yards, scored on a 96-yard kickoff return. Curty Wade and Anthony Crews also found the end zone for BVA, while the Leps forced a turnover on downs in the final minute.

Mount Pleasant Area 23 Burrell 13   (MP: 2-1; BURR: 0-3)

Jarrett Garn rushed for 135 yards and two scores, including a 41-yarder on the first play from scrimmage to lead Mount Pleasant Area to a 23-13 home win against Burrell. The Buccaneers led briefly in the first half, but Vikings QB Cole Chatfield scored on a 42-yard run just before half to restore the Mount Pleasant advantage. In addition to his 70 yards on the ground, Chatfield added 129 yards through the air on 5-of-10 passing, including an interception. Conversely, Stevie Hasson was 8-of-17 passing for 106 yards with a TD and two picks, and he also rushed for a score for the Bucs. Talan Newcomer hauled in a touchdown pass for the Buccaneers, while Garn also booted a 39-yard field goal for the Vikes.

Greensburg Salem 50 Valley 14   (GS: 3-0; VALL: 0-3)

Homestanding Greensburg Salem used a dynamic ground attack to bludgeon Valley 50-14. Four different players surpassed 50 yards rushing for the Golden Lions, led by Kai Brunot, who notched 72 yards and two touchdowns. Peyton Chismar completed 5-of-7 passes for 114 yards and two scores, and he also rushed for 59 yards. Additionally, Dom Rosensteel hauled in a pair of TD passes for Greensburg Salem. In the defeat for the Vikings, Mason Simmons completed 14-of-33 attempts for 175 yards and a score, while Zyaan Ferron registered five catches for 95 yards. Nicholas Heakins added 51 yards rushing and a touchdown for Valley.

Southmoreland 49 Laurel Highlands 13   (SOU: 3-0; LH: 1-1)

Southmoreland continued to produce offensively, as the Scotties rolled to a 49-13 win at Laurel Highlands. Southmoreland QB Anthony Smith amassed 281 yards and three TDs, while Elliot Premus posted four receptions for 138 yards and added a rushing score. Makell Darnell added two touchdowns for the Scotties, including a 56-yard punt return.

Ringgold 21 Yough 19   (RING: 1-2; YOU: 2-1)

Despite another big game from Raidon Kuroda, Yough suffered a 21-19 loss at home to Ringgold. In the process, the Rams won for the first time since September 2021, snapping a 27-game skid. In defeat, Kuroda rushed 22 times for 172 yards and a score.

Jeannette 34 Ligonier Valley 27   (JEA: 3-0; LV: 1-2)

Kymon’e Brown had another stellar effort in leading Jeannette to a 34-27 road victory at Ligonier Valley. Brown rushed 14 times for 237 yards and a pair of scores, while he also completed five passes for 47 yards and another TD for the Jayhawks. Moreover, Jayce Powell caught six passes for 66 yards and added a rushing score for Jeannette. The Rams also had a player top 200 yards rushing, as John Jablunovsky ran 20 times for 210 yards and three TDs. Additionally, Duncan Foust compiled 96 yards on the ground and a score for the Rams.

Greensburg Central Catholic Apollo-Ridge (Cancelled) Greensburg Central Catholic held a 28-21 lead at Apollo-Ridge at the half, but inclement weather prompted the cancellation of the game.
