Westmoreland County high school baseball recaps from Monday, April 24th 2023:

Franklin Regional 4 Armstrong 0   WATCH BROADCAST

Blake Bertucci tossed a gem, allowing just three hits in a complete game shutout as Franklin Regional topped Armstrong 4-0 in a Section 1-5A game at Haymaker Park. The Panthers scored first in the bottom of the second as, after two outs, Bertucci doubled and Chase Lemke singled him home to make it 1-0. In the third inning, Franklin Regional scored on an error plus got a RBI double courtesy of Brady Yarabinetz to push the advantage to 3-0. Max Bernadowski's run-scoring single provided FR's fourth run in the fourth inning. Bernadowski finished with two hits plus scored a run. Bertucci struck out nine batters and only walked one in the victory for the Panthers (9-3, 5-2). Dustin Coleman collected two hits for the Riverhawks (9-4, 6-3).

Mount Lebanon 6 Hempfield Area 0

Hempfield Area dropped its second game in a row, falling to Mount Lebanon 6-0 in a Section 2-6A match up. Carson Shuglie was the lone Spartan to have a hit in the game as Blue Devils' pitcher Matthew Delvaux worked a complete game shutout. He tallied nine strikeouts. Jack Kurdziel took the loss for Hempfield Area (9-5, 7-3). Nolan Smith finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs to lead Mount Lebanon (5-9, 5-5).

Central Catholic 6 Norwin 1

Pittsburgh Central Catholic went ahead 2-0 in the first inning and never looked back in a 6-1 triumph over Norwin. Chris Slatt had a pair of hits, including a double for the Knights (4-10, 4-6). He also scored their lone run as he was driven in on a double by Jake Auld. David Farrell went 3-for-3 with four RBIs to pace the Vikings (6-6, 5-5).

Penn-Trafford 7 Penn Hills 6

Penn-Trafford built up a seven-run lead but had to hold off a Penn Hills comeback at the end for a 7-6 victory in Section 1-5A action. The Warriors were ahead 7-0 through the top of the sixth but the Indians scored twice in the bottom of the frame then added four more runs in the seventh. With the potential game-tying run at third, Peyton Bigler struck out James Duncan to end the game. Dylan Grabowski finished with two hits and three RBIs for Penn-Trafford (8-3, 4-3). Braden Stone added two hits, scored twice and knocked in a run. Sean Walker went 3-for-3, including a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Indians (3-9, 0-9).

Belle Vernon 11 Albert Gallatin 1

Adam LaCarte and Austin Hoffman each drove in three runs to help Belle Vernon to an 11-1 Section 2-4A victory over visiting Albert Gallatin in a six-inning, 10-run rule game. In addition to LaCarte and Hoffman, Jake Gedekoh clubbed a two-run homer and scored four times for the Leopards (6-6, 3-4). Colton Lee was credited with the victory on the mound allowing an unearned run in six innings. The Colonials fall to (0-11, 0-7).

Greater Latrobe 5 Uniontown 2

Greater Latrobe brought home insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away from Uniontown and secure a 5-2 Section 2-4A victory. Jacob Cramer had two hits plus a run scored for the Wildcats (8-5, 6-1) who scored three of their runs on two errors and a bases loaded walk. Dante Basciano added a RBI single in the seventh inning. Logan Bradish worked 5 2/3 innings to earn the victory. He yielded two runs on five hits and whiffed eight batters. Wyatt Nehls contributed two hits for Uniontown (7-4, 5-2).

Derry Area 10 Burrell 9

The Trojans plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 9-8 deficit and defeat Burrell 10-9 in a Section 3-3A match up. After two Buccaneers' errors allowed a pair of DA runners to reach in the sixth, Colin Bush laced a double to drive them in and put the Trojans ahead 10-9. Burrell got two runners on in the top of the seventh but Nate Papuga entered the game and got a strikeout and a flyout to end it. Bush finished with three hits and five RBIs for Derry Area (4-5, 3-4). Ashton Beighly also drove in three runs while Cason Long scored three times. Dylan McKalip, Brayden Mell and Cash Wyble had two hits apiece for the Bucs (6-7, 4-5).

East Allegheny 3 Valley 0

Chance Odoski fired a three-hit shutout to lead East Allegheny to a 3-0 Section 3-3A triumph over Valley. Michael Cahil was 2-for-2 with a double and RBI to lead the Wildcats (8-2-1, 7-0). The Vikings fall to (5-9, 1-6).

Waynesburg Central 9 Southmoreland 3

Waynesburg Central tallied multiple runs in four of seven innings to down Southmoreland 9-3 in a Section 4-3A game. The Raiders led 2-0 after one and 4-2 after two innings. They scored two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Lincoln Pack went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs plus scored twice for Waynesburg Central (5-5, 3-4). Kadin Keefer collected two hits in the loss for the Scotties (1-10, 1-8).

Yough 7 Mount Pleasant 5

Gavin Roebuck plated a pair of runs for Yough as the Cougars topped Mount Pleasant by a 7-5 score in Section 4-3A action. Jack Sampson added a triple for first place Yough (10-3, 7-0). Ryan McKula doubled and collected two RBIs for the Vikings (4-6, 3-4).

Apollo-Ridge 7 Greensburg Central Catholic 5

Brandon Butler homered, tripled and brought in four runs to lead Apollo-Ridge to a 7-5 triumph over Greensburg Central Catholic in a Section 3-2A tilt. In addition to Butler, Cooper Gourley doubled in a run for the Vikings (4-7, 3-6). Sean Walker tripled in two runs and Max Kallock blasted a solo homer for the Centurions (6-3, 5-2).

Riverview 7 Ligonier Valley 0

Ligonier Valley could only muster two hits and committed six errors in a 7-0 defeat to Riverview in Section 3-2A action. Duncan Foust and Broderick Schreyer were the only players for the Rams to garner a hit off of Enzo Lio who struck out 11 in a complete game shutout. Luke Migely went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Raiders (7-3, 6-1). The Rams, with just one win in their last five games, fall to (8-5-1, 5-4).

Serra Catholic 13 Jeannette 1

Jeannette fell to first place Serra Catholic 13-1 in a Section 3-2A game. Michael Mason had two hits and drove in the lone run for the Jayhawks (2-9, 1-6).
