Westmoreland County baseball game recaps from Tuesday, April 21st 2026:
Hempfield Area 12 Canon-McMillan 9
Down 7-3 through three innings, Hempfield Area rallied and for the second straight day knocked off Canon-McMillan 12-9 in a Section 2-6A tilt. The Spartans turned the tables in the fourth inning as they plated seven runs to take a 10-7 lead highlighted by a three-run homer from Ian Kovalcik. Chase Damaska collected three hits and drove in a run for the Spartans (7-8, 4-4) while Evan Dunlap and Owen Shuglie each had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs. Damaska got the win in relief and Drew Jones closed out the game for Hempfield Area. M.J. Maruschak homered and finished with two hits for the Big Macs (12-4, 7-4).
Greater Latrobe 9 Norwin 3
Greater Latrobe tallied three runs in each of the first, second and fifth innings en route to a 9-3 non-section win over Norwin. Grady Ruffner had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice to pace the Wildcats (11-2) while Ty Wisniewski collected two hits and three RBIs. Luke Bulebosh added a pair of hits and scored two runs. Derek Berger recorded three hits and a run scored for the Knights (8-5). Cole Short was the winning pitcher allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits in four innings. He struck out four. The Wildcats touched up Norwin hurler Caden Sivrich for six runs in 1 1/3 innings.
Penn-Trafford 15 Penn Hills 2 (5 inn.)
Colton Tyburski went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs powering Penn-Trafford to a 15-2 five-inning win over Penn Hills in Section 1-5A play. In addition to Tyburski, Jordan White had three hits for the Warriors (10-4, 6-2) while Tanner DeStefano had two hits, with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Logan Matrisch added a pair of hits, including a double for PT. Zach Feldman worked three innings to earn the win. The Indians are now (0-10, 0-10).
Franklin Regional 12 Armstrong 0 (5 inn.)
Franklin Regional scored 10 runs in the second inning as it dispatched Armstrong 12-0 in a five-inning Section 1-5A triumph. Liam Bernadowski and Anthony Mitchell each had three hits for the Panthers (12-3, 6-2). Bernadowski added four RBIs while Mitchell tripled and drove in two. Tyler Quinn also had two RBIs for FR. Aaron Muraco and Nico Fioravanti combined for the five-inning shutout. The Riverhawks drop to (3-11, 2-8).
Plum 8 Kiski Area 3
Plum put up three runs in the sixth inning to pull away from Kiski Area and grab an 8-3 win in Section 1-5A play. Andrew Varner went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to pace the Cavaliers (3-8, 3-5). John DeLuca reached base three times, scoring twice. Andrew Monaco and Dom Lauletta both doubled in runs for the Mustangs (13-1, 7-1). Kiski Area committed four errors in the contest.
Derry Area 8 Greensburg Salem 2
Derry Area pounded out 12 hits as it topped Greensburg Salem 8-2 in a Section 3-4A match up. Leading the way Cason Long who went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three runs scored and an RBI for the Trojans (6-7, 3-4). Anthony Sacco and Max Doherty each had two hits with Sacco scoring two runs and Doherty bringing home two. Donovan Trimble contributed a pair of RBIs for DA while Colton Sanders doubled twice. Doherty whiffed seven batters in six innings to pick up the victory. Robert Visnick registered a pair of hits, including a double, for the Golden Lions (1-10, 0-7).
Freeport 8 Burrell 3
Burrell fell behind 8-0 after two innings and never recovered in a Section 3-3A loss to Freeport. Rayden Shirey and David Kleckner each drove in runs for the Bucs (7-7, 5-5). Gavin Tola notched two hits, including a double, drove in two runs and scored two runs to lead the Yellowjackets (12-0, 8-0).
Mount Pleasant 10 Southmoreland 0 (5 inn.)
Bobby Smithnosky hurled a five-inning no-hitter as Mount Pleasant shut out Southmoreland 10-0 in Section 3-3A play. Dane Firmstone went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored to power the Vikings (10-5, 7-3). Smithnosky and Ian Shipley each drove in a pair of runs while Santino Marne had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Smithnosky struck out 10 batters and walked just one. The Scotties are now (1-13, 0-8).
Greensburg Central Catholic 9 Avella 2
Despite Avella scoring first, Greensburg Central Catholic tallied runs four runs in each of the third and fourth innings to pull away from the Eagles 9-2 in a Section 1-1A match up. Carson Kramer recorded two hits and three RBIs for the Centurions (9-0, 8-0). while Tyler Samide went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. Alec Martin allowed two runs on eight hits in six innings to secure the victory. Bryce Wright had two hits for the Eagles (10-5, 7-3).
Jeannette 9 West Greene 2
Amari Thomas had two doubles, two RBIs and scored a pair of runs to lead Jeannette in a 9-2 triumph over West Greene in Section 1-1A. Ryan Shotts also doubled twice for the Jayhawks (7-6, 3-5) while Jayden Kennedy had two RBIs. Evyn Yargeau went all seven innings as he scattered nine hits and struck out eight while allowing two runs. Logan Shields had two hits and an RBI for the Pioneers (2-10, 2-6).
