Westmoreland County girls basketball game recaps from Monday, December 16th 2024:

Franklin Regional 60 Penn Hills 32   WATCH BROADCAST

The game was tied at seven with just under 3:30 left in the first quarter but Franklin Regional went on a 15-4 run to take control and went on to secure a 60-32 win against Penn Hills in a Section 1-5A game. Alyssa Bridges tallied 12 points to pace the Panthers (4-3, 2-0) while teammates Addison Musto and Maddie DeRiggi scored 11 and 10 points respectively. Milani Oliver's 18 points were a game-high for the Indians (0-5, 0-2).

Indiana 53 Kiski Area 24

Kiski Area found itself down 16-3 after the first quarter and 32-7 at halftime losing to Indiana 53-24 in a Section 2-5A match up. Gianna DeVito put in six points for the Cavaliers (5-2, 0-1) while Stella Stossel collected 15 points for the Indians (6-1, 2-0).

Greensburg Salem 53 McKeesport 33

A trio of players reached double figures as Greensburg Salem defeated McKeesport 53-33 in Section 2-5A play. Blessing Gantt, Mya Heasley and Vienna Jevicky all finished with 10 points for the Golden Lions (4-2, 1-1) while Emily Isenberg ended with 10 points for the Tigers (1-6, 0-2).

Derry Area 36 Valley 27

Jane Huss collected 14 points in helping Derry Area to a 36-27 triumph at Valley in Section 1-4A. Lucie Loucks added 11 points for the Trojans (3-3, 1-1) who trailed 10-8 after one quarter but went ahead 21-13 at halftime. Janelle Norman had 13 points to pace the Vikings (1-6, 0-2).

Knoch 38 Burrell 28

Burrell held a slim 8-7 lead after the first quarter but was outscored the rest of the way in a 38-28 loss to visiting Knoch in Section 1-4A play. Jules Fisher was the high scorer tallying 14 points for the Buccaneers (5-2, 1-1) while Neah Ewing scored 12 points to lead the Knights (2-5, 2-0).

Southmoreland 62 Ringgold 58

Lanie Moore and Olivia Aumer combined to score 41 points helping lead Southmoreland to a 62-58 victory over Ringgold in a Section 3-4A contest. Moore put in 21 points and Aumer ended with 20 for the Scotties who were ahead 31-21 at halftime. Alayna Mocloe's 14 points powered the Rams.

South Park 55 Mount Pleasant 29

Mount Pleasant trailed by just two points at halftime, 20-18, but South Park outscored the Vikings 24-5 in the third quarter as the Eagles won 55-29 in a Section 3-4A match up. Carmella Spallone tallied six points for the Vikings (0-6, 0-2) with Andrea Kuczma scoring a game-high 21 points for South Park (3-1, 2-0).

Belle Vernon 46 Yough 32

Belle Vernon led by just five points after three quarters, 31-26, but used a 15-6 run in the final frame to sink Yough 46-32 in a Section 3-4A game. Aubrey Brown poured in a game-high 19 points for the Leopards (4-3, 2-0) with Abby Russell contributing 10. Daisy Miller collected 11 points for the Cougars (4-3, 1-1).

Greensburg Central Catholic 79 East Allegheny 16

Greensburg Central Catholic poured in 51 points in the first half alone in a 79-16 drubbing of East Allegheny in Section 2-2A play. Erica Gribble lead all scorers with 24 points for the Centurions (4-2, 2-0) with Jayla Peterson scoring 19 points. Dezlyn Clary had 12 for the Wildcats (1-5, 0-2).

Ligonier Valley 51 Steel Valley 43

Ligonier Valley erased an early deficit by outscoring Steel Valley 22-9 in the second quarter and went on to defeat the Ironmen 51-43 in a Section 2-2A tilt. Sydnee Faust (15) and Belle Pacienza (11) both reached double-figures for the Rams (2-3, 1-1). Taylor Kenney's 11 points topped Steel Valley (0-6, 0-2).

Jeannette 53 Northgate 22

Jeannette claimed a 53-22 non-section victory over winless Northgate. The Jayhawks improve to (2-3) while the Flames are now (0-6).
