Jonathan Whaley
Broadcaster
Jonathan is a native of Westmoreland County having grown up in Arnold, PA. He is a graduate of Valley High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He has a varied sports broadcasting career having served as a play-by-play announcer for the Allegheny College Gators (PA) football and basketball games on WMGW-Radio 1490 (AM) in Meadville, PA and hosted a sports talk radio show in Erie, PA on WLKK Radio 1400 (AM). He has executive produced and hosted his own half-hour weekly television sports talk show "Against The Grain" that aired on WPMY-TV MY Pittsburgh TV on Saturday mornings in spring of 2009.
Jonathan was the creator and host of two unique sports media programs designed to increase the recognition for and promote high school girls volleyball and softball in Western Pennsylvania: the "Sweet 16" Softball Program and "Terrific 21" Girls Volleyball Program. He is very proud of the dynamic coverage the two sports received with the "Sweet 16" and "Terrific 21".
In 2021, Jonathan helped create the Willie Thrower Award which is now handed out annually to the top quarterback in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The award is named after former Valley standout Willie Thrower.
Jonathan is the play-by-play voice for Franklin Regional football on the Westmoreland Sports Network and also calls Seton Hill University women's volleyball and softball.
He lives in Brackenridge.
