John Flickinger
Broadcaster
John is a graduate of Derry Area and has a background in broadcasting. He earned his communications degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1997 and then spent six years in the broadcast field for the now Renda Broadcasting Company, Indiana County location. As part of the staff at Renda, he broadcast high school football, basketball and baseball plus was also responsible for on-air news and sports. John served as the color commentator with Indiana County broadcast legend and Mount Pleasant native Jack Benedict on IUP football broadcasts from 2001 until 2013.
John went back to IUP and earned a degree in Health and Physical Education in 2004 and currently teaches at Derry Area High School. He is also the head baseball coach at Derry where he spent 14 years previously as an assistant. He also spent three stints of six years as a high school football coach at Derry, most recently as offensive coordinator in 2011.
He started with Westmoreland Sports Network in 2010 and broadcasts Derry Area High School football and basketball. He is also responsible for voicing a number of commercial spots that you hear on the network.
John currently lives in Penn-Township with his wife Beth, two children Hayden and Garrett, his dog Glaze and two cats Cookie and Willie. He enjoys hanging out with his boys, coaching, broadcasting, golf, hunting and exercising.
