Westmoreland County softball game recaps from Wednesday, April 15th 2026:

Hempfield Area 10 North Allegheny 0 (6 innings)

After the first two innings went scoreless, Hempfield Area found its traction and scored 10 runs over the next four frames en route to a six-inning, 10-0 shutout of North Allegheny in Section 1-6A. Claire Mitchell had a massive game going 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored for the Spartans (10-1, 8-0). Lauren Howard added two hits and scored twice. Julia Varhola tossed the shutout allowing just one hit in six innings while striking out nine. Zoe Rychel had the lone hit for the Tigers (5-5, 5-4) who committed six errors in the contest.

Norwin 8 Mount Lebanon 6

Keyed by a pair of home runs, Norwin notched an 8-6 road victory at Mount Lebanon in a Section 1-6A clash. Makenna Black and Madelyn Kugler each homered for the Knights (6-3, 6-1), with Black registering a pair of hits and two RBIs. Sydney Donahue had two hits and two runs batted in for the Blue Devils (1-10, 1-8), while Sarah Stroh homered.

Penn-Trafford 15 Kiski Area 0 (3 innings)   WATCH BROADCAST

Penn-Trafford earned a statement victory, winning 15-0 in three innings against Kiski Area in a Section 2-5A contest. Host PT compiled 13 hits, with Torrie DeStefano going 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs, while Aria Smith, Annabell Carvajal, and Ava Heller all reached safely three times and scored thrice. Allyson Paulone worked three shutout frames, permitting just one hit while striking out two for the Warriors (10-2, 7-1). Madison Rearic had the lone hit for the Cavaliers (10-3, 7-3).

Gateway 6 Franklin Regional 3

Host Franklin Regional faltered in a 6-3 loss against Gateway in a Section 2-5A matchup. Bella Salas accounted for two RBIs for the Panthers (3-12, 3-6), while Grace Stark added a double. The Panthers struggled against pitcher Brianna Banner, however, as she struck out a dozen in earning the win for the Gators (3-6, 2-6).

Armstrong 11 Greater Latrobe 1 (5 innings)

Armstrong brought home seven runs in the fourth inning as part of an 11-1 victory over visiting Greater Latrobe in a Section 2-5A clash. Natalia Scekeres doubled for the Wildcats (6-5, 4-4). Sydney Kurkar finished 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs to pace the Riverhawks (8-4, 8-2). Piper Olinger was the winning pitcher.

Greensburg Salem 7 Freeport 5

Greensburg Salem belted two, three-run homers in the fifth and sixth innings to rally past Freeport 7-5 in Section 1-4A. With the Golden Lions down 5-1, A Scarpa cracked a three-run shot in the fifth followed by another three-run bomb by P Redinger in the sixth. Redinger finished with three hits for Greensburg Salem (4-3, 4-2). Arianna Devlin had a pair of hits for the Yellowjackets (3-5, 3-5). Scarpa worked all seven innings to secure the victory.

Belle Vernon 13 Oakland Catholic 4

Belle Vernon totaled 18 hits in a 13-4 blowout of Oakland Catholic in Section 2-4A action. Addyson Newman went 5-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored to power the Leopards (7-6, 5-5). Kaylee Sypolt collected four hits, including a double, and two RBIs while Ava Jones hit a two-run inside the park home run. Lily Crawford struck out 10 batters in a complete game win. The Eagles fall to (1-6, 1-6).

Yough 5 Southmoreland 2 (8 innings)

After Southmoreland tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, Yough struck for three runs in the top of the eighth and it stood as the Cougars topped Southmoreland 5-2 in a Section 1-3A game. Isabella Grabiak tripled in the game-tying run for the Scotties with two outs in the seventh but Brooke Kowalski supplied the game-winning RBI single in the eighth. Yough would tack on two insurance runs to put the game on ice. Kowalski finished with three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for the Cougars (10-4, 5-2) while Anna Linder doubled and drove in a run. Zoey Murphy hit a home run for Southmoreland (3-9, 2-6). Jaidyn Vay went all eight innings to earn the victory in the circle. She struck out eight batters.

Burrell 13 Ligonier Valley 3 (5 innings)

A powerful offense boosted Burrell to a 13-3 victory in five innings at Ligonier Valley in Section 1-3A play. Leah Waldsmith went 2-for-2 with four runs batted in for the Buccaneers (6-5, 4-3), while Addy Wojtczak and Samantha Gregg each added a pair of hits and two RBIs. In the setback for the Rams (3-7, 1-5), Marlee Miller produced two RBIs.

Mount Pleasant 10 Deer Lakes 0 (6 innings)

Mount Pleasant collected 14 hits and secured a 10-0 Section 1-3A win over Deer Lakes. Jenna Whipkey produced four hits for the Vikings (9-1, 7-0) while Chloe Borelli tripled and drove in three. Kendra Brunson homered and Emma Miller doubled finishing with two RBIs. Danica Trainer tossed the six-inning shutout surrendering only three hits and striking out four. The Lancers are now (5-6, 2-5).
