Level Green native Brandon Svoboda was chosen by the San Jose Sharks in the third round of the NHL Draft on Wednesday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Svoboda, a 6-foot-3 center, started his hockey career in Murrysville playing dek hockey before converting to ice hockey in Delmont. He then joined the Penguins Elite program.
He graduated from Penn-Trafford High School only last month.
Last season while playing for the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League, Svoboda tallied 16 goals and 10 assists in 59 games while helping the Phantoms win their first ever Clark Cup. He is scheduled to return to the Phantoms next season and then attend Boston University.
