SHU Baseball (7-4-1, 0-0): Seton Hill completed its annual spring trip by playing five of the seven games of the trip last week.
On Monday the Griffins lost to Tampa, the No. 3 ranked team in the nation, by a score of 9-2. Neal McDermott collected two hits in the contest. SHU committed three errors and walked 11 batters in the contest.
Following an off-day Tuesday, Seton Hill dropped a pair of one-run games to Florida Southern 4-3 on Wednesday and Minnesota State Mankato 5-4 on Thursday. Drew Garth had two hits, including a home run against the Mocs while Owen Sabol and Max Mandler each delivered a pair of hits against the Mavericks. Brian Pirone made his first collegiate start against Florida Southern allowing three runs, two earned, in four innings while striking out four.
On Friday, SHU rebounded with a lopsided 13-6 victory against Notre Dame College of Ohio. Nate Dorinsky went 3-for-5, including a home run, with four RBIs and two runs scored. Jack Oberdorf finished with two hits and scored three runs. Jared Dowey earned the win in relief. Kevin Vaupel started the game and pitched four scoreless innings, striking out six.
In the final game of the week, Seton Hill played to a 2-2 tie with Augustana - its first tie in the 17-year history of the program. With the contest knotted up in the sixth inning, a strong band of storms halted the game and wiped out the rest of the day. The team then returned to Greensburg.
This week, SHU welcomes Walsh for a non-conference game on Wednesday then plays Le Moyne in a three-game series this weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday at home.
SHU Softball (11-2, 0-0): The Griffins softball team also finished their Florida trip with three wins and two losses last week.
On Monday Seton Hill earned a pair of victories over West Virginia Wesleyan 4-2 and Notre Dame of Ohio 4-1. Brooke Cleland belted a grand slam in the first game while Grace Peredes tallied two hits against the Falcons. Logan Hartman and Chloe Elliott were the winning pitchers.
The team suffered its first loss on Tuesday falling to Southern New Hampshire 6-2 despite leading 2-0 after five innings.
SHU also tasted defeat in the first game on Wednesday against Wayne State in a 6-3 loss. Jenna Osikowicz posted two hits in the match up. Later Wednesday, the Griffins bounced back with a 7-1 win over Bemidji State. Alex Walsh finished with two hits while Osikowicz hit a solo home run. Hartman earned the win.
The Griffins closed the week out with an 11-3, five-inning win against Ashland and a 5-0 shutout of Trevecca Nazarene on Friday. Morgan Toal belted two home runs and drove in four against the Eagles. Osikowicz collected two more hits and scored twice. Mallory Skelly picked up the win in the circle. Morgan Ryan tossed a complete game shutout against Trevecca. She also had two hits and a RBI. Osikowicz and Natalia Greco also registered two hits each.
This week, Seton Hill will host a round robin and will play Malone Friday and Mercyhurst on Saturday.
SHU Women's Lacrosse (4-1, 0-0): The SHU women's lacrosse team won a pair of contests in the sunshine state last week.
Monday, the Griffins topped Concordia St. Paul 13-6 at Saint Leo University. Jaclyn Frank led the SHU attack with a goal and six assists. Skyla Orlowski added four goals and Megan Bunker came in with three. Kamille Ward made 11 saves.
Frank registered nine points in Seton Hill's 18-10 win against Saint Leo on Thursday. She scored twice and added seven assists. Piper Conlan tallied four goals while Orlowski tallied three goals and three assists.
The Griffins welcome IUP for their PSAC opener on Thursday at 3 p.m. on Westmoreland Sports Network then travel to Slippery Rock on Saturday at 1 p.m.
- Jaclyn Frank was named PSAC West Athlete of the week for her effort in the two victories. She scored three goals and added 13 assists. Among those were her 100th goal and 200th career point.
SHU Men's Lacrosse (3-3, 1-0): The Griffins men's lacrosse won their G-MAC opener on Tuesday 22-5 over visiting Wheeling. Layne Harich collected five goals while Thomas Hanulak scored three times and added an assist.
The Griffins made the trip to Tierney Field in Sparks, Maryland where they played Florida Tech and dropped a 14-6 contest. Florida Tech controlled the game early, scoring eight of the first nine goals in the contest. Peyton Gensler found the back of the cage three times for Seton Hill.
SHU hosts Mount Olive on Monday then welcomes Mercy College on Sunday at Noon.
SHU Wrestling: Redshirt senior Joel Cawoski dropped both matches in the NCAA Division II National Championships at Chaifetz Arena in Saint Louis on Friday.
In the first match, Cawoski took on top ranked Joey Bianchini of Saint Cloud State in the 141 pound weight class. Bianchini, who entered with a 28-0 record, improved to 29-0 with a 16-4 win.
Later on that day, Cawoski faced Keaten Schorr of Augustana in the consolation round. He was eliminated with an 8-2 loss by decision.
