Gateway 60 Hempfield Area 7 (GATE: 5-1; HA: 5-1) WATCH BROADCAST
The Gators put up 53 points in the first half, as they stunned previously-undefeated Hempfield Area 60-7 in the Class 5A Big East Conference. Gateway QB Brad Birch was 18-of-23 passing for 331 yards and four touchdowns, and he added another score on the ground. Additionally, Jaquon Reynolds accumulated three rushing scores, and Anez Jordan caught five passes for 121 yards and two TDs. The lone Hempfield Area score came in the fourth quarter, as Mitchell Bitar caught a 35-yard pass from Dominic Detruf. Spartans QB Jake Phillips was limited to 4-of-11 passing for 18 yards and one interception, while Gino Caesar had just seven yards rushing on seven carries.
Penn-Trafford 28 Norwin 0 (PT: 3-2; NOR: 1-4) WATCH BROADCAST
The Warriors’ defense was air-tight, pitching a shutout of Norwin in Penn-Trafford’s 28-0 victory in the Class 5A Big East Conference. Daniel Tarabrella accounted for a pair of second-quarter TDs for the Warriors, on a 10-yard run and a 17-yard reception from Conlan Greene. The Warriors’ QB was 8-of-12 passing for 132 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Tasso Whipple and Carmen Metcalfe also scored for PT, while Metcalfe hauled in an interception. Jackson Pons recorded two picks defensively for Norwin.
Franklin Regional 31 Plum 28 (FR: 3-2; PL: 3-3) WATCH BROADCAST
A big third quarter proved the difference for the Panthers, as Franklin Regional edged Plum 31-28 in Class 5A Big East Conference play. The host Panthers received a big performance from receiver Ayden Hudock, as he caught five passes for 136 yards. Zach Bewszka contributed a rushing touchdown and an 82-yard kickoff return score that sparked the surge in the third. FR quarterback Roman Sarnic was 9-of-14 passing for 161 yards, and he also notched a TD run.
Greater Latrobe 31 Trinity 6 (GL: 3-3; TRIN: 2-4)
Quarterback John Wetzel had a breakout performance for the Wildcats, as he passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another in Greater Latrobe’s 31-6 win at Trinity in the Class 4A Big Seven Conference. Wetzel rushed seven times for 129 yards, while his touchdown passes spanned 84 and 31 yards, to Kollin Stevens and Corey Boerio, respectively. Robby Fulton also scored, as he rushed 19 times for 122 yards.
Indiana 47 Kiski Area 28 (IND: 3-3; KA: 0-6)
The Cavaliers received big offensive performances from Carson Heinle, Dom DiNinno, and Dominick Simmons, but Kiski Area provided little resistance defensively in a 47-28 loss at home to Indiana Area in the Class 4A Greater Allegheny Conference. Heinle was 9-of-15 passing for 122 yards and two TDs, both to Simmons, while DiNinno produced 11 carries for 166 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Mount Pleasant 45 Greensburg Salem 28 (MP: 4-2; GS: 3-3) WATCH BROADCAST
The Vikings scored four consecutive touchdowns in the second half, pulling away from Greensburg Salem for a 45-28 win at home in the Class 3A Interstate Conference. Lane Golkosky notched four touchdowns on the ground, rushing nine times for 118 yards, and he added four catches for 84 yards in the triumph for Mount Pleasant Area. Meanwhile, Robbie Labuda registered 15 carries for 132 yards and two scores. In defeat, GS quarterback Cody Rubrecht rushed 18 times for 148 yards and two TDs, while he was 9-of-12 passing for 172 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Julian Stevens caught a pair of touchdowns, while Jerome Wallish hauled in three passes for 74 yards.
Belle Vernon 56 South Allegheny 0 (BVA: 3-2; SA: 1-5)
Quinton Martin rushed seven times for 144 yards and three touchdowns, as the Leopards hammered South Allegheny 56-0 in the Class 3A Interstate Conference lid-lifter. Belle Vernon Area also received offensive touchdowns from Chase Ruokonen, Jake Gedekoh, Tanner Steeber, and Anthony Crews. In addition to pitching a shutout, the BVA defense scored, as Adam LaCarte returned an interception 35 yards to paydirt.
Elizabeth Forward 42 Southmoreland 6 (EF: 6-0; SOU: 2-4)
The Scotties were overmatched at home in a 42-6 loss against Elizabeth Forward in the Class 3A Interstate Conference opener. Ty Keffer hauled in an 11-yard touchdown pass from Kadin Keefer, but Southmoreland had no answer for EF’s Jordan Willmore, who rushed for three TDs for the Warriors.
Serra Catholic 49 Derry Area 7 (SC: 5-1; DA: 0-6) LISTEN BROADCAST
Defending WPIAL champion Serra Catholic overwhelmed winless Derry Area 49-7 in a Class 2A Allegheny Conference tilt. The host Eagles received a big performance from QB Quadir Stribling, as he hit on 8-of-12 passes for 296 yards and four TDs. Blake Revoir had the only touchdown for Derry Area on a 14-yard surge.
Burrell 42 Imani Christian 30 (BURR: 5-1; IC: 2-4)
Devin Beattie turned in a historic performance for the Buccaneers, as he rushed 33 times for 298 yards, scoring six touchdowns in Burrell’s 41-30 at Imani Christian in the Class 2A Allegheny Conference. Beattie tied Cole Bush for the most TDs in a single game in Burrell history. In the setback, David Davis scored three rushing touchdowns for the Saints.
Ligonier Valley 48 Yough 14 (LV: 4-2; YOU: 2-4)
The Rams jumped out to a 35-0 lead at the half, as Ligonier Valley rolled to a 48-14 win against host Yough in the Class 2A Allegheny Conference. Nick Lonas rushed nine times for 116 yards and two scores for LV, while James Pleskovitch hauled in two passes for 69 yards and a pair of touchdowns. John Jablunovsky also went over 100 yards on the ground, as he compiled 105 yards and a TD on just four carries. Freshman QB Bowie Schreyer hit on 4-of-7 passes for 75 yards and two scores. In addition to a rushing touchdown, Haden Sierocky tied for the team-lead with 10 tackles.
Greensburg Central Catholic 34 Clairton 18 (GCC: 4-2; CLA: 2-4)
Da’sjon Craggette and Jaydin Canady each scored two touchdowns, while Tyree Turner threw for two more in the Centurions’ 34-18 home win against Clairton in the Class 1A Eastern Conference. Turner was 10-of-14 passing for 246 yards and two scores for GCC. Craggette scored on rushes for 9 and 6 yards, while Canady caught an 81-yard pass and added a 13-yard run to paydirt. Amari Mack also caught a long TD for the Centurions.
