Westmoreland County boys basketball section results from Tuesday February 2nd 2021:
Derry 59 Freeport 46
>> Three players finished in double figures as Derry won its second straight Section 1-4A game with a 59-46 triumph over Freeport. The Trojans held a 20-10 scoring edge in the third quarter to push their lead to 46-30 heading into the final frame. Ryan Bushey tossed in 19 points to lead the way for Derry (2-3, 2-2). Sam Jones came in with 17 points and Tyson Webb added 11.
Fox Chapel 49 Hempfield 48
>> After losing by 22 points in the first match up, Hempfield nearly knocked off Fox Chapel this time around but fell just short losing 49-48 in a Section 3-6A match up for first place. A three-pointer by Christian Zilli put the Spartans up 43-41 with just three minutes left in the game. But the Foxes responded with a 6-0 run and never gave the lead back. Hempfield's Dom Hipps was fouled at the buzzer with a chance to force overtime but made just one-of-two free throws. Zilli, who didn't play in the first meeting, was the Spartans leading scorer with 12 points. Mike Hosni added 10 for Hempfield (5-3, 4-2). Eli Yofan racked up a game-best 31 points for Fox Chapel (8-2, 4-1).
Penn-Trafford 61 Greensburg Salem 34
>> Penn-Trafford scored early and often against Greensburg Salem and cruised to a 61-34 victory in a Section 3-6A contest. The Warriors held a 21-2 lead through the first quarter and built the advantage to 42-11 at the halftime break. Ben Myers scored 14 points to pace Penn-Trafford (7-3, 3-2). Josh Kapcin tallied 11 points and Jason Sabol finished with 10 for P-T. Ben Thomas led all scorers with 18 points for Greensburg Salem (0-3, 0-1).
Central Catholic 51 Norwin 40
>> Central Catholic used a 16-9 scoring edge in the third quarter to pull away and defeat Norwin 51-40 in Section 3-6A. The Vikings were ahead by just four points at the halftime break but outscored the Knights 16-9 in the third quarter to go in front 37-26 after three. Adam Bilinsky and Jayden Walker both finished in double figures for the Knights (4-6, 1-5) with 12 and 10 points respectively. Randy Wilkerson racked up 28 points for Central Catholic.
South Park 57 Southmoreland 27
>> Southmoreland was outscored in every quarter in a Section 3-4A loss to South Park at home. Ty Keffer and Ronnie Collins both finished in double-figures for the Scotties (1-9, 0-7) scoring 13 and 11 points each.
Ligonier Valley 61 Valley 45
>> Ligonier Valley scored a 61-45 Section 3-3A win against Valley at home. The Rams improve their record to (2-2, 2-2).
Greensburg Central Catholic 72 Propel Braddock Hills 43
>> Brevan Williams went off, scoring 32 points in Greensburg Central Catholic's 72-43 victory at Propel Braddock Hills in Section 3-2A action. The Centurions trailed by one point after the first quarter, 17-16, but outscored Propel 37-17 over the second and third quarters. In addition to Williams, Ryan Appleby tallied 13 points for GCC (8-1, 5-1). Christian McGowan chipped in with 10. The Centurions host Jeannette on Friday.
