Woodland Hills 84  Latrobe 79     LISTEN BROADCAST

>> Latrobe opened Section 3-6A play with an 84-79 loss to Woodland Hills at home Friday. It was an entertaining up-and-down game throughout with the Wildcats leading 40-37 at halftime with Latrobe leading by as much as nine in the second quarter. But the Wolverines ended the third quarter with a 62-59 lead. In the fourth quarter, the lead changed hands four times in the final minutes. The Wildcats (2-2, 0-1) missed two three-pointers to tie the game and Woodland Hills buried two free throws to put the game on ice. Marcus Dudzenski, playing in his first game for Latrobe returning from a hip injury, scored a team-high 24 points including 10 in the first quarter. Bryce Butler tallied 22 points while Reed Fenton came in with 15.

Fox Chapel 61  Hempfield 48

>> Hempfield couldn't recover from a tough first half and dropped its Section 3-6A opener at Fox Chapel 61-48. Braden Brose put in a game-high 19 points for the Spartans (1-3, 0-1). Marcus McCarthy ended with 11.

Derry Area 63  Yough 33

>> Derry outscored Yough in every quarter en route to a 63-33 Section 1-4A opening victory at home. The Trojans (2-1, 1-0) held a 10-5 advantage after the first quarter and built the lead to 24-10 at the break. They also outscored the Cougars 18-8 in the third quarter. Tanner Nicely led Derry with 15 points. Aidan Bushey tossed in 13 and Angelo Copelli finished with 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Greensburg Central Catholic 60  Springdale 48

>> Greensburg Central Catholic recovered from a rough start to win its first game of the season over Springdale 60-48 in the first game of Section 1-2A play. The Dynamos raced out to a 19-7 lead after the first eight minutes but GCC trimmed the deficit to 28-21 at halftime. Tre Cunningham poured in 22 points to lead Jeannette (1-0, 1-0). Robert Kennedy scored 13 points and A.J. Sharp chipped in with 12.
