12 Westmoreland County baseball teams will compete in the WPIAL postseason

The WPIAL unveiled the baseball playoff brackets on Friday afternoon, which features a dozen Westmoreland County teams in the field. Penn-Trafford, the lone reigning WPIAL champion from Westmoreland County, was seeded sixth in Class 5A. This year, the championship games will again be contested in Washington, at the newly-renamed EQT Park, with the title matchups slated for May 27 and 28.

In Class 6A, Norwin received the fourth seed, creating a matchup against No. 5 Butler Area on Monday, May 19 at a time and location to be announced. On the same day, No. 8 seed Hempfield Area will play top-seeded North Allegheny at a time and location to be announced.

In 5A, the Warriors received the sixth seed, pitting them against No. 11 Connellsville Area at Norwin High School on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Greater Latrobe garnered the nine seed, setting up a clash against No. 8 Fox Chapel Area at Gateway High School on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Lastly, Franklin Regional was seeded No. 13, as the Panthers will battle No. 4 Bethel Park at Boyce-Mayview Park in Upper St. Clair on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The bracket in Class 4A features a Westmoreland County clash, as fifth-seeded Belle Vernon Area will play No. 12 Derry Area at Gateway on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Also in the bracket, Greensburg Salem earned the No. 10 seed, as the Golden Lions will face seventh-seeded Central Valley at Seneca Valley High School Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Three more county teams made the cut in Class 3A. Burrell garnered the eighth seed, as the Buccaneers will face No. 9 Charleroi at Gateway on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Ligonier Valley was seeded No. 10, as the Rams have a matchup against seven seed Quaker Valley at Fox Chapel Area High School on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Moreover, Mount Pleasant Area received the No. 12 seed, setting up a clash against No. 5 South Park at Gateway on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Lastly in Class 1A, Greensburg Central Catholic snagged the fifth seed, as the Centurions will square off against No. 12 Sewickley Academy at Plum High School on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
