SHU Football (4-5, 2-4): Fourth-ranked California (Pa.) scored four times in a span of just over four minutes in the first quarter to sink Seton Hill 42-14 at Adamson Stadium.
With Cal U leading 28-0 through the first quarter, Jake McCormick fired a 16-yard touchdown pass to Todd Phillips to cut the Vulcans lead to 28-7. Cal U responded with the knockout punch, however, scoring with just 1:22 left in the second quarter to go into halftime ahead 35-7. Jaiquawn McGriff scored on a 3-yard run for Seton Hill with 17 seconds left in the game.
Logan Wiland carried 33 times for 166 yards to lead the Griffins offense. Jaden Emberton-Gaines made eight tackles.
The Griffins host Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday for a Noon kickoff on Westmoreland Sports Network.
SHU Men's Soccer (8-7-1, 5-3-0): The Seton Hill men's soccer team dropped a pair of key PSAC matches last week.
On Wednesday, the Griffins were on the wrong end of a 3-0 match at Mercyhurst. The Lakers are now two points ahead of Seton Hill for second place in the PSAC West. In the match, Mercyhurst held a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.
It didn't get any easier for SHU on Saturday as they tangled with first place Gannon, losing 1-0. Sergio Del Castillo scored the contest's only goal in the 31st minute. Bobby White made four saves for SHU.
Seton Hill will close out the regular season hosting California (Pa.) on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday at 2 p.m.
SHU Women's Soccer (5-9-1, 4-9-1): It was a 1-1 week for the Griffins women's soccer team last week.
Seton Hill began by dropping a 4-0 match up at Merchurst on Wednesday. The Griffins could only muster one shot on goal in the contest.
On Saturday, SHU rebounded by shutting out Indiana (Pa.) 1-0. After a scoreless first half, Olivia DeLeonibus tallied what would become the game-winning goal in the 58th minute. Lindsey Pazdziorko played very well in goal, making 12 saves to earn the shutout.
The Griffins, who are eliminated from playoff contention, will close out the season this week traveling to California (Pa.) on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. and hosting Edinboro on Saturday at 11 a.m.
SHU Women's Volleyball (10-13, 3-9): Seton Hill split a pair of PSAC West matches last week.
The Griffins snapped a six-match losing streak on Tuesday with a sweep of Slippery Rock winning by scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-23. Mara Yahner picked up 10 kills while Paige Cole added eight to pace Seton Hill. Carrie Leazer tallied 28 digs and a service ace.
On Friday, SHU was beaten by California (Pa.) in straight sets 25-20, 25-18 and 25-13. Cole finished with eight kills for the Griffins.
Seton Hill plays a pair of matches this weekend, hosting Pitt-Johnstown on Friday at 7 p.m. and Clarion on Saturday at 6 p.m.
SHU Women's Field Hockey (1-15, 0-9): Griffins women's field hockey finished the season with two losses last week falling to Slippery Rock 7-0 on Wednesday and No. 5 Millersville 4-0 on Saturday.
