Greensburg Salem turned in a dominant performance on Monday, as the Golden Lions rolled past Plum 9-0 at the Kirk Nevin Arena in Greensburg. Host Greensburg Salem scored three goals in each period, and the Golden Lions outshot the Mustangs by a remarkable margin of 60-13.

With the win, the sixth in a row for GS, the Golden Lions improve to 12-1-0, and with 24 points, remain tied with Fox Chapel Area, which was also victorious on Monday, atop the PIHL Class A Blue Division.

Greensburg Salem wasted no time in asserting its dominance, as the Golden Lions scored just 29 seconds into the contest, courtesy of Carter Cherok. Less than two minutes later, Chase Kushner tallied to give GS an early 2-0 edge, and Hunter Webb added another goal later in the frame.

The Golden Lions continued to add to their advantage in the second, as Sam Spigarelli found the back of the net on a shorthanded goal less than three minutes into the stanza. Cherok netted his second later in the second, while Evan Knowles scored in the final minute to push the GS edge to 6-0 heading into the intermission.

With the outcome already decided in the third period, Greensburg Salem’s leading scorer, Owen Tutich, produced two goals just 64 seconds apart, and Landon Morrison capped the lopsided victory with a goal in the final minutes.

In addition to the offensive output, Greensburg Salem received a strong performance from goalie Tristian Gonzales, who made 13 saves to secure the shutout.

Although allowing nine goals on the other end, Plum netminder Kaleb McCabe made 51 saves, including several stellar stops.

Greensburg Salem returns to the ice at home on Thursday, as the Golden Lions have a crucial showdown against Norwin. Conversely, Plum will travel to play Indiana Area on Thursday.
