BOYS
Derry Area 58 Mt. Pleasant 34 - WATCH BROADCAST
>> Derry scored the first nine points of the game and went on to capture a 58-34 Section 1-4A victory over Mt. Pleasant. The Trojans (6-6, 4-3) outscored the Vikings in every quarter including 22-8 in a big third quarter for DA. John Kerr paced Derry with 13 points while Connor Watt added 12 and Justin Huss 11 for the Trojans. J.J. Johnson tallied a game-high 16 points for Mt. Pleasant (3-14, 1-6).
Latrobe 70 Penn-Trafford 55
>> Latrobe used a big second quarter to down Penn-Trafford 70-55 in Section 3-6A play. After an up-and-down first quarter which saw the game tied at 21-21, the Wildcats continued scoring in the second quarter but the Warriors didn't. Latrobe used a 23-7 edge in the second frame to take control of the game quickly and went on to win. Bryce Butler poured in a game-high 22 points for the Wildcats (11-5, 6-3) with teammate Reed Fenton finishing with 20. Kevin Stinelli put in 18 points for the Warriors (6-11, 3-6). Also finishing in double-figures for P-T were Chris Abreu and Zach Rocco who each scored 10. With Fox Chapel's upset of Woodland Hills Tuesday, Latrobe remains tied with the Foxes for third place.
Hempfield 47 Plum 46
>> Braden Brose racked up 24 points to help Hempfield edge Plum 47-46 in Section 3-6A. The Spartans looked as if they had the game well in hand winning 38-23 after three quarters. But Plum finished the game on a 23-9 run to make things very interesting. With the victory, Hempfield (5-11, 2-7) snaps a five-game losing streak.
Penn Hills 67 Norwin 54
>> Penn Hills sprinted out to an early 14-point lead and never looked back, downing Norwin 67-54 in a Section 3-6A contest. The Knights trailed 18-4 at the end of one quarter and 31-17 at halftime. They did outscore the Indians 25-15 in the fourth quarter but it was too late. Josh Ratesic's 18 points topped all scorers for Norwin (9-7, 4-5).
Greensburg Salem 49 Armstrong 35 - LISTEN BROADCAST
>> After a slow start, Greensburg Salem built up a 19-15 lead at halftime and continued to expand the lead in the second half eventually defeating Armstrong 49-35 in Section 3-5A. The Golden Lions outscored the Riverhawks 30-20 in the second half. Marvel McGowan's 20 points led Greensburg Salem (9-6, 2-4). Dante Parsons added 16 for the Golden Lions who lost to Armstrong by 14 points earlier in the season.
Highlands 87 Franklin Regional 68
>> Highlands used a big first half to hand Franklin Regional its first loss Section 3-5A loss of the season 87-68. The Rams jumped in front 19-8 after eight minutes and went into the halftime break ahead 40-20. Hunter Stonecheck came in with 17 points to lead the Panthers (11-4, 5-1).
Deer Lakes 70 Yough 33
>> Deer Lakes held a 19-5 lead after one and went on to defeat Yough 70-33 in a Section 1-4A contest. The Cougars were outscored in every quarter and trailed 43-15 at halftime. Jared Bach put in 15 points for the Cougars (2-14, 0-8).
GIRLS
Latrobe 62 Penn-Trafford 42
>> Laura Graytok dropped in 21 points to push Latrobe to a 62-42 home Section 2-6A victory over Penn-Trafford. The game was never in doubt as the first place Wildcats opened the game on a 22-4 run. Shelby Wetzel added 14 points for Latrobe (13-2, 6-0). Stephanie O'Donnell finished with 17 points to top the Warriors (7-9, 3-4).
Norwin 64 Penn Hills 47
>> Three players finished in double-figures as Norwin completed the season sweep of Penn Hills winning 64-47 in Section 2-6A play. The Knights led 16-9 after one and 32-17 at halftime. They ended the game on a 21-13 run. Olivia Gribble came in with 19 points on five 3-pointers to lead Norwin (7-8, 5-2). Magen Polczynski finished with 17 points and Jayla Wehner added 16.
